Bay Area youth media organizations are invited to nominate the most visionary youth media producers to receive one of several awards at the East Bay Youth Media Awards. The event will take place at Preservation Park in Oakland, CA on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 from 6:00pm – 9:00pm.
Youth ages 13 – 25 will be nominated by their peers and adult supporters to receive awards in various aspects of media production, including video, photography, animation, radio production, and social media. Submissions will be judged by youth peers and adult media professionals for innovative quality, creative content, and social advocacy messaging. The submission will ideally be inspirational, futurist, and will push the envelope of media creation.
This event is a fundraising initiative to benefit three youth media organizations: Youth Radio, KDOL Media Enterprise Alliance, and United Roots:
- Youth Radio, a nationally recognized media program established over 20 years ago and recently celebrated by the White House as a recipient of a 2012 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award;
- KDOL Media Enterprise Alliance, an Oakland school-based program serving hundreds of inner-city youth with the assistance of local media personalities;
- United Roots, a grassroots urban media and arts organization with comprehensive education and training programs for urban youth.
The East Bay Youth Media Awards, conceptualized by Alameda County Supervisor Keith Carson, is designed to inspire future generations to elevate the field of media through cutting edge ideas and creations.”Through our partnership with these three community-based organizations, we aim to spark critical youth engagement and raise awareness in our community about the incredible young talent emerging from the East Bay,” notes Supervisor Carson.
